What is Profhilo?
Profhilo is a revolutionary 'beneath the skin' hyaluronic acid moisturising treatment, made with the patented NAHYCO® technology.
This results in a unique hyaluronic acid injectable gel, which has a prolonged stimulating activity on the dermal cells. When injected into skin, Profhilo® stimulates the skin cell receptors to counteract skin laxity and improve and restore firmness of the skin.
What is the Benefit of Profhilo®?
Profhilo® will improve the elasticity and firmness of the skin, thereby reducing lax skin and providing a look that is very natural-looking. The skin will feel hydrated, but other than that it should not be in any way uncomfortable.
Who is Profhilo Suitable For?
The treatment is suitable for men and women as well as offering skin benefits for patients of all ages.
Profhilo® is primarily used to treat the face and neck. Each of these requires a full treatment with Profhilo®, so if you wanted to treat both areas then this would require two treatments.
It can also be used to treat the décolletage, hands, arms, knees and abdomen area where it would effectively treat skin laxity.
What is the Process of Profhilo®?
To determine whether you are a suitable candidate for treatment, you will first undergo a consultation with the dermatologist, who will take your medical history and examine the area to be treated.
The dermatologist will take photos of the skin prior to treatment. They will also explain all of the potential side-effects, to enable you to decide whether the injections are the right treatment option for you.
If it is suitable to proceed, the area to be treated will be cleaned with an alcohol wipe, and sometimes the dermatologist might make tiny marks to indicate injection sites using a sterile pencil. These marks will not be visible after treatment.
The dermatologist will then administer the Profhilo® injections in specific doses in predetermined locations. These injections may feel like a sharp scratch, but they are not usually painful, and they don’t normally require any anaesthetic beforehand.
You will be given follow-up care instructions on what to expect and what to avoid after your treatment.
To get the benefit of Profhilo treatment, you will need a second set of injections, identical to the first, a month after the first appointment.
While Profhilo® injections administered by a dermatologist are quite safe and effective, it is possible to have complications, and in most cases, they would be minor – such as bleeding, bruising, tenderness or swelling at the sites of injection and infection. If you have underlying medical conditions or are regularly taking medications, it is essential that you let your dermatologist know when they take your medical history during a consultation, since they might mean you are more susceptible to certain side effects.
What is the Recovery Time & Outcome for Profhilo® Injections?
If you are suitable for treatment with Profhilho® injections, and they are the right option for you, the procedure usually takes about 15 minutes, and any redness at the sites of injection usually disappear within 24 hours.
The full effects of the treatment are not visible until 2 weeks after the second treatment.
You will need to undergo further treatment to maintain the effects – normally top-ups are done every six months, and involve one more set of injections in the same location. You do not need the second set of injections for top-ups.
Every individual is different, but the effects normally last 6 months.
