Dr Chris Phillips

Dr Chris Phillips is a Consultant Dermatologist with a particular interest in skin lesions, skin cancer surgery and male genital dermatology. He sees adults and children (from around the age of seven) at Derma Reading on Wednesday mornings, alongside his substantive NHS consultant post at the Churchill Hospital in Oxford, where he runs skin cancer and surgical clinics and a monthly male genital dermatology clinic.

He qualified from the University of Nottingham in 2010 and trained first as a GP (MRCGP 2018) before completing specialist training in dermatology at the Churchill Hospital. He holds MRCP (UK) and the Specialty Certificate Examination in Dermatology, and was admitted to the GMC Specialist Register in Dermatology in 2025. That dual background gives him a broad view of skin problems and a practical, patient-centred approach.

Chris is an experienced skin surgeon, having performed more than 5,000 skin cancer procedures in the NHS, with an emphasis on excellent cosmetic results, and is a member of the skin cancer multidisciplinary team at the Churchill. He is also skilled in dermoscopy, mole mapping and cryotherapy.

He teaches dermatology nationally for the Royal College of General Practitioners and for the University of Oxford, where he is an examiner and educational supervisor. His award-winning research, published in the British Journal of Dermatology, explored the psychological impact of severe skin disease on young patients.

Outside work he enjoys tennis, cycling and time with his wife and three boys in Oxford.
